ENROLLMENT PROCESS

The enrollment process for The Brooklyn Charter School is simple. First, families are invited to Open Houses and School Tours to view the school in action and to have an opportunity to ask questions. Following the visit, family members will be asked to complete an application.

The application will be dated and placed on file. At a certain date, the Kindergarden applications will be entered in a lottery to fill available seats. Applications for grades 1 through 5 are placed on a waiting list. Once vacancies arise, BCS calls families on the waiting list to fill slots. Letters are also sent to families, explaining the enrollment procedures and outlining the waiting list numbers.

ADMISSIONS POLICY

The Brooklyn Charter School shall be open to any child who is eligible under laws of New York State for admission to a public school, and the Charter School shall comply with the requirements of Education Law 2854(2) and all other applicable laws.

All children who are eligible for enrollment in a public school in New York City will be eligible to enroll in the Charter School. The Charter School will admit each eligible student in grades K-5 who submits a timely application, unless the number of applications exceeds the capacity of the student’s requested grade level or of the school building.
